The Client:

Founded in 1998, Oakland International is a family owned, award winning distribution company.

They provide multi-temperature distribution for food and consumer goods using ambient, chilled and frozen transportation. With depots in Redditch, UK and Ashbourne, Ireland, they operate a highly efficient daily logistics distribution network delivering customers product into UK and Irish retail, wholesale, discount and convenience markets.

The Project:

During the bidding process for new contracts, the Oakland management team identified that in order to provide the number of trained staff that would be required to deliver the contracts to their own exacting standards, larger facilities for training and customer reception would be required.

A redundant food packing room adjacent to Reception was stripped of all equipment and converted into two new meeting rooms. A section of cul-de-sac corridor was enlarged and fitted out as a kitchen. The existing male and female toilets servicing the Reception were enlarged and completely refurbished.

The project was started at the beginning of September 2012 and completed by the end of November 2012. This is a busy time for Oakland International as the intensity of their work increases towards Christmas. By working with the Client and with good Project Management, the work was planned to be mainly carried out during normal hours, with some works in Reception being carried out at weekends to minimise disruption to the business.

ABC Solutions was appointed as Principal Contractor by competitive tender and worked with Oaklands own maintenance team and Client appointed electrical contractor.
